2014, third landing
A downtown floor because the winters lie
Maeve Collin did not want a warehouse off the interstate. She wanted a room people could walk to from Armory Square after work, with windows that show the lake-effect the same week the county nines go quiet.
The first winter was an argument with printed mats. Every mat had a line. Every golfer followed the line. Every April the same golfer banana’d across Bellevue like the line had been a rumor. Maeve ripped the mats out in March 2015 and had maple milled to the length of Suite 3. The boards still live here. They have been recut, oiled, and cursed at. They have not been replaced by graphics.
Syracuse is a putting town that pretends it is a driving town until January. Indoor carpets at the big-box leagues run faster than June poa and slower than a shaved tournament surface nobody around here actually plays. The atelier exists to stop people from buying a quiet face in February that they cannot aim in May.
Ellis joined in 2016 because Maeve kept sending golfers away with a hang number and no hardware. Someone had to keep a drawer that at least tried. Juniper arrived in 2018 after a season of marking Cazenovia greens and being asked why “the same putter” died on frost delays. She brought a stimp notebook and a grudge against warehouse nap.
We have never been a chain. We have never hung a banner that says tour. South Salina changes storefronts; Suite 3 has kept the buzzer. If you want the origin in one sentence: the floor is the instrument because the weather here lies, and printed arrows lie faster.
What did not change
Chalk still goes down first
Heads in the drawer have turned over. The copper ticks have not. Sunday is still dark. The phone still uses a 315. Mail is still arc@arcputt.site. The claim is the same one Maeve wrote on the first ribbon: hang waits for the maple.
What did
Winter recuts, twin-path hours
By 2019 it was obvious some golfers own two paths and swap under fatigue. Twin-path hours exist for that. Winter recuts exist because January carpet is not a personality test, it is a nap. Both are on the arc menu.
