Hang is a consequence, not a recipe
Once the maple has named a radius, toe drop is just the number that agrees. Starting with a degree is how people buy a Charleston rail’s answer to a Syracuse banana.
We do not hang heads by the hosel as the first act. That work is honest in other rooms. In this room the floor has already voted. A banana with a large radius wants more drop. A tight banana wants less. A rail wants a face that sits quiet. Those are not brand stories. They are matches.
Ellis will sometimes leave you with a written number and an empty hand. The drawer is not a catalog. If the match lives in a used barrel two towns over, the maple still did its job. People who need a shopping bag to feel finished are in the wrong atelier.
Length and grip move the radius. They can make a mid drop suddenly too much, or a quiet face suddenly almost enough. That is why we do not “match hang” in a vacuum. Photographs, then hardware, then a second look if we changed the stick. See length and grip only after the first chalk is honest.
What we write on the ribbon
Family (banana, rail, hybrid). Approximate radius in inches from the tick. Drop that agreed — or the drop that would, if we owned it. A speed note if Juniper was in the hour.
What we will not write
A brand as a personality. A promise that June poa will behave like January carpet. A lesson plan. A “tour” adjective.
